OKI Fuser Errors: What They Mean and How to Fix Them

The fuser is the part of your OKI printer that bonds toner to the paper using heat and pressure. When your printer displays a fuser error, it has detected a problem with the fuser unit. The good news is that most fuser errors have a simple fix: restart the printer, or take the fuser out and refit it. Only one code, error 354, means the fuser has reached the end of its life and needs replacing.

Do I fix the fuser or replace it?

Work through these three steps in order. Between them, they resolve the majority of fuser errors.

What do error codes 320 and 348 mean?

Both codes mean the fuser unit isn’t seated correctly. Switch the printer off and let it cool, then remove the fuser and refit it, checking that the lock levers are fully closed. See codes 320 and 348 on the error-code page.

What do error codes 167, 168 and 169 mean?

The printer has detected a fault with one of the fuser’s temperature sensors. Turn the printer off and leave it for 30 minutes to cool, then turn it on again. If the code returns, give us a call. See codes 167 to 169 on the error-code page.

What do error codes 170, 171, 172 and 173 mean?

These codes mean the fuser’s temperature sensor has failed, or the fuser is running too hot or too cold. Restart the printer first. If the code comes back, the fuser unit needs replacing, as the sensor is built into the fuser and can’t be replaced on its own. See codes 170 to 173 on the error-code page.

What do error codes 260 to 270 mean?

This range covers faults with the fuser’s heater sensors. Restart the printer, and if the code returns, replace the fuser unit. If a new fuser doesn’t clear the code, call us, because the fault may lie in a cable or circuit board rather than the fuser itself. See codes 260 to 270 on the error-code page.

What do error codes 135-09, 155 and 274 mean?

Code 135-09 is a fuser motor fault, and refitting the fuser will often clear it. Code 155 means the fuser’s fuse has blown. Code 274 is a fault with the fuser cover temperature sensor. In all three cases, restart the printer first. If the code comes back, call us before ordering a part, as these faults aren’t always in the fuser itself and we’d rather confirm the cause than sell you something you don’t need.

What does error code 354 mean?

The fuser has reached the end of its rated life. Opening and closing the output tray will let you keep printing for a short while, but print quality will deteriorate, so fit a new fuser as soon as you can. See code 354 on the error-code page.

How do I replace an OKI fuser?

Warning: the fuser gets very hot during printing. Leave the printer to cool for at least 30 minutes before handling the fuser.

1. Switch the printer off and unplug the power cable.
2. Open the top cover fully.
3. Pull the fuser lock levers forward to release the unit.
4. Lift the old fuser out by its handle.
5. Lower the new fuser into place and push the lock levers back to secure it.
6. Close the top cover, reconnect the power and switch the printer on.
7. Print a test page to confirm everything is working.
