Two questions decide it: what size do you print, and what do you print on?

Size first. The C651dn is the A4 model at 35ppm in colour and mono, with a 250 sheet tray. It handles general office colour: reports, presentations, proposals.

For A3 there are two. The C824dn runs at 26ppm and 1200 x 600dpi. The C844dn is faster at 36ppm and sharper at 1200 x 1200dpi. Choose the C844dn if colour quality matters, or if A3 is a daily job rather than an occasional one.

Now media. All three include a 100 sheet multi-purpose tray for heavier and non-standard stock. The C824dn and C844dn print GHS compliant chemical labels. The C651dn and C844dn print horticulture labels, and the C844dn also handles seed packets.

All three connect by USB and network, print automatic double-sided, work with Windows and Mac, and carry a free 3 year on-site warranty when registered within 30 days.

One thing before you order. If labels, greetings cards or packaging are a production job rather than an occasional one, look at the Pro Series first. Those machines print larger than A3 and offer white toner.
